First I would like to thank all involved that have given me the support and encouragement to go forward with my campaign to be elected to the Toledo City Council as a representative for District #2, and to those of you that have indicated that a fresh voice on City Council would be appreciated.
Many District 2 residents and Toledo bloggers have been curious as to my background and experience. So I would like to take some time to address this question.
I was raised on the south end of Toledo by a single mom,Maria Sue Campos, pay attention you will be hearing about her again in this blog. Through her sacrifice, and hard work ethic I was able to attend elementary school at St Charles Elementary, located on Airport Hwy. Although my mother never ran for political office she was very active with in the community as a representative fighting for the rights of the underprivileged. Part of her involvement entailed dealing with many of the civic leaders of the time. Along with her sisters ,Ruth Garcia-Gonzalez, Aurora Gonzalez, and Sally Cortez-Gonzalez they founded a community service group called "La Voz del Barrio" of which voter registration was a primary function. I was witness to many people, young and old alike, receiving an education from these ladies on the virtues of the vote.
Therefore, as a youth I was exposed to many of the local ins ands outs of which Toledo politics is comprised .
For high school I had the privileged to attend St. Francis de Sales and with the help of the Oblate fathers and a fine teaching staff I graduated in the class of 1986. From there I went on to study at the University of Quincy, in Quincy IL, run by the Franciscan Friars. It was at college during the 1988 presidential election that I was eligible to vote, and exercised that right to participate. After graduation from Quincy I informed my mother that I intended to maintain our proud family tradition of service to our country and I enlisted in the United States Army. (Enter young PFC Campos who found out that he did not quite know as much as he thought he did) I arrived in Ft. Benning ,GA. and successively went through boot camp, jump school, and Ranger indoctrination. I was then Stationed at Ft Lewis WA. 2nd battalion/75th Ranger Regiment. After several missions in with the Rangers I applied to Officer Candidate School, was accepted and received my commission as a Cavalry Scout Officer, duty station Ft. Polk , LA. Through the education received by my family I was able to explain to many of my young troopers the added responsibility that we as Americans had to participate in our public elections and also to demonstrate to them, that even though at times we were deployed overseas , we had the opportunity to vote via absentee ballot.

After I left the Army I took a position in the LTV Steel Mill Corporation at the Hot Strip Mill based in East Chicago, while living just over the border in Valparaiso,IN. Porter county.
As my children grew older I realised that it was time to return home to Ohio , so I took a position with the 84 Lumber Company in Findlay, OH. I was a resident of Hancock county until over a year ago when I accepted the opportunity to return home to Toledo. I am currently renovating a home here on the south end in the Beverly area.
Its great to be home! - I have the energy and the drive, and I want to be of service to my hometown. I am asking you to give me the support needed to step up and represent District 2 on Toledo City Council.

Thank you,

Mario Campos for Council

The Founders of our nation believed that every American has what is termed a Responsibility of Citizenship. That responsibility entails an obligation to contribute to the common good by performing duties to benefit the community, (e.g., the individuals responsibility to become informed about public policies, to vote in public elections, and to voluntarily serve in defense of our shores).

At this time I am once again stepping up to my responsibility of citizenship by running for the Toledo City Council Seat District #2. It is my intention to use my influence as City Councilman to make Toledo business compatible, in order to ensure that Toledo utilizes our powerful workforce , our in place industrial facilities, and intelligent youth to keep us on the cutting edge of the alternative energy industry which is the way of the future. In our district neighborhoods I will do what it takes to make sure that our district remains at the lowest crime levels of the city.

In our democratic system we as Americans that are unhappy with our leaders are free to organize and peacefully make a case for a change , and thereby vote into office a citizen that we will ask to bear the burden of responsibility for their community in order that the community may enjoy the benefits of the protection of their rights and freedoms.

I ASK YOU

STEP UP DISTRICT #2
